Make your own chick-fil-a style sandwich (minus the hate).

a little more of the fic of doom.

I actually got some writing time in today! Here's a little bit: 4000ish words. Kate is courtesy of [personal profile] technosage, blame me for Will and the little dude.

in which Kate and Will take Magnus on a picnic.Collapse )

Have a little more from the fic of doom, tenatively titled All That You Build, All That You Break. All the credit for Kate goes to [personal profile] technosage, blame me for Will.

(I'm not posting everything here yet, just what I feel are some of the better parts. I'll eventually put it all on Ao3, if I finish it.)
I wasn't expecting to have a kid with you.Collapse )

from the fic of doom

sanctuary: Will thoughtful
This fic is up to about 18K right now and no end is in sight. This little bit is Will telling Abby about his son and is about 2000 words.

He's not going to hate you for giving him a better life and trying to make him feel safe and happy.Collapse )

have a little fic.

sanctuary: Will & Magnus reassurance
So, I started a fic, based on the premise that Magnus Zimmerman, Kate and Will's son from Pavorverse, shows up one day at the new Sanctuary. And I think it's going to be huge.

Have a little bit. This part is about 1500 words.

Why do I get the feeling you know exactly why this kid thinks I'm his dad?Collapse )

Sanctuary for None pt 2

sanctuary: Will thoughtful
I didn't get to watch the episode until later and am just now writing my reaction because I was on a trip when it aired. I've had a few days to think it over, so this isn't an off the cuff reaction post. Weirdly, I sat down to write my reaction to it as I watched it again, but once I got started I found I had no interest in doing that, so it's just a little reaction. Not really enough to cut, but vaguely spoilery, so just in case.

shall we begin?Collapse )

Sanctuary for None, pt 1

sanctuary: let me tell you something
I liked Will. I liked Abby (the fuck? I never like her!). The rest I hated.

I know I keep harping about this

but SERIOUSLY. markf, you are an idiot if you think your little workaround is going to be REMOTELY acceptable.

Tomorrow, you need to be prepared to kiss your subject lines and your userpic drop-down box goodbye. Because LJ doesn't fucking care about things that are USEFUL.

LJ changes

you people make my ass twitch
I don't know if y'all know about some of the changes that are apparently coming to LJ. I don't know for sure if THESE changes are the ones coming in the next update but apparently they are already being beta-tested and they will be rolled out at some point.

HERE is a thread linking to a post by a Russian LJ designer where he talks about some of the "brilliant" changes he's come up with which include:

* no more subject lines in comments (but you might get to keep them for a while for "certain" communities or using some S2 custom comment pages [ugh])

HERE is a comment in the latest news post from someone who is beta testing the changes, out of curiosity, and they note that this new style also:

* removes "expand all" from comments. You have to click a box (or more than one box) and then get the "expand" option.

* is significantly slower because of some animations and scripts that are added to the commenting process (first has a comment about it not being slow, and then the end of the comment says that the comment pages DO load slower)

* has NO reply preview or spell check button

and another comment which says that the new style has:

* no more dropdown menu for user icons; BROWSE function only

I don't know how much LJ even cares, but if any of those things are a problem for you, I suggest leaving a comment on the news post HERE.

Writer's Block: B.Y.O.B. Holidays

ladybug quiet
What is on your holiday wish list this year? One random answer will win a $50 Amazon gift card. [Details here]

It's not a long list.

1. Season 3 of Sanctuary on DVD or Blu-Ray (because I looove the ridiculous commentaries). (and I'd like to hear about a Season 5, get on that Syfy!)

2. An iPad. Very few of my classes are going to have textbooks, there's mostly lots of readings online, and I don't to print all those out and waste all that paper. It would make studying so much easier. (and hey, I got all As this term, I think I deserve it!)

3. Donations to the Sloth Sanctuary in Costa Rica. I love these little guys. They just hang around minding their own business and not bothering anyone. Their habitats are being destroyed, they get injured or tortured by humans, and the Sloth Sanctuary is a safe haven for orphaned or injured sloths.

4. Not for me, but for my husband: a case of Cheerwine. Seriously. He loves that soda but we haven't been able to find it out here in Oregon. I think it's just a southern thing.

4.08, Fugue

sanctuary: Will & Magnus reassurance
Okay, now that I am finally home for the night, I can try to pull my thoughts together about this episode. It was such a punch in the gut in the best possible way. I don't even know if I can explain it.

but I'll try.Collapse )

Sanctuary 4.07, Fugue

sanctuary: Carentan comfort
I don't even know how to handle my feelings about this episode. I don't even know what to say other than I am now a shivering emotional mess. Talk to me!!!

Sanctuary 4.07, Icebreaker

sanctuary: Magnus and Will
I'll admit, I was bored at first, and then suddenly WHAM IT GOT AWESOME.

heh.Collapse )

Sanctuary 4.06, Homecoming

sanctuary: Will thoughtful
I loved this episode, even if it jossed some of my headcanon for Will. Robin Dunne did a lovely job directing it!

I. Loved. It.Collapse )

interest poll: Sanctuary holiday fic fest

sanctuary: Helen - little smile
So, Sanctuary is now on the list of ineligble fandoms for yuletide. WOE.

Which clearly means we need our own holiday fest! I'm trying to gauge interest, so, a poll:

Poll #1792706 Sanctuary fic fest interest?

I would be interested in a Sanctuary holiday fic fest:

I would prefer the following format:

exchange (everyone who writes gets a fic in return)
prompt free for all (prompts are submitted and open to all, no guarantee you will get a fic)

I would prefer:

delayed author reveal (like yuletide, with authors revealed some time after posting)
immediate author reveal

I would be willing to:

pinch hit (in an exchange format)
help with mod duties

Feel free to put other suggestions, comments, questions below!

Sanctuary: double standards

sanctuary: let me tell you something
By this I don't mean double standards for men and women, I mean double standards for "good guys" and "bad guys or those with ambiguous allegiance". Namely, there's a standard for what Will is allowed to get away with, and what Nikola or John, for example, are allowed to get away with, without getting crucified by fandom.

cut for discussion of Monsoon, with mention of an unconfirmed spoiler for next week's episode with Tesla--said spoiler is at the end of the postCollapse )

After the Storm (14257 words) by faviconCallie

He doesn't call her and tell her he's making omelets with beer, they don't have stupid bets to see who can finish a crossword puzzle the fastest, he doesn't invite her to go fishing, and they rarely even end up in the commissary at the same time.

Quilts for sale.

ladybug on a mission
Our moving expenses are way more than we anticipated thanks to our accelerated move-in schedule, and both of our sets of parents are retired and on fixed incomes and can't really help us, so I'm going to try to sell as much stuff as I can to raise some money.

So I'm going to put some things on my journal and see if anyone's interested. This post is for quilts I've made. I'll put some other posts up for books, CDs and DVDs (I'm probably going to sell my box sets of Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Sanctuary (blu-ray) and LOST (blu-ray) and a mostly-complete set of Discworld books. Potentially some of my husband's anime collection, if he'll part with it.

quilts for sale.Collapse )

After we move, I can do a few quilts on commission, but I won't have time to do anything new until we get to Oregon. If you're interested, comment here or email [ ceilidh [at] livejournal] and we can discuss details.

I also have some projects that I've started and haven't finished, including 12 Dresden Plates (in green, red, tan, cream) and 6 Sunbonnet Sue blocks in various floral patterns. If interested in these to start your own projects, let me know and I'll put up pictures.
